The Three Sisters

  • location: Pass of Glen Coe, Scotland
  • date: March 2015

The Three Sisters is a trio of mountains just off the A82 that welcomes visitors as they drive into arguable the most beautiful glen in Scotland, Glen Coe. Despite their serene view, the Three Sisters have a disturbing past. On an early morning in 1692, dozens of men, women, and children of the MacDonald clan were slaughtered on those mountainsides by their host, the Campbell clan, in what is now known as the Massacre of Glencoe. However, that beautiful early morning as we walked along the highway and past the Three Sisters to reconnect with the West Highland Way, it was difficult to imagine all the blood shed on those gentle slopes.
