Sunset at Glacier Point

  • location: Yosemite National Park, CA
  • date: August 2015

We arrived at the popular Glacier Point almost two hours before sunset. With our backs against a giant rock, we waited as the shadows from the surrounding peaks stretched with the setting sun. But before the sun dipped to the level I wanted for my shot, clouds covered the sky, sapping away the color from the landscape and filling it with a grayish darkness. We stayed regardless as we had planned to see the Milky Way later from there anyway. Luckily for us and the crowd that remained, the clouds parted 30 minutes later, and I was able to get the shot I had wanted--the orange sunset just skimming the top of Half Dome.
