It was very cloud during the couple days we were in Banff, which made sunrise and sunset photography very frustrating. That did not stop us from trying though.
That day, we decided to head to Peyto Lake to take our changes there for sunset despite overcast clouds. Usually this is a very popular viewpoint for sunset. However, it was raining as we pulled into the parking lot, which may have contributed to how empty it was that day. We took the paved trail to the viewpoint; I jogged partly out of habit but also party because a thought of "what if".
In those few minutes, the rain slowed to a drizzle. The storm clouds were parted just enough in the distance for the setting sun to paint its light dramatically over dark clouds and onto the mountains. The light drizzle also kept away the mosquitoes for the most part (in addition to the crowds)!
This was definitely one of those shoots where I expected absolutely nothing but went anyways, and was rewarded with some great, unique photos.
